BitPay unified all stablecoin funding into a single USD wallet balance today. Previously, USDT on Ethereum and USDT on Tron (and USDC across chains) tracked separately, which forced operators to manage balances per chain. The new behavior treats all stablecoin variants as the same underlying USD asset, with the host chain used for speed and fee purposes only.
Operators running frequent small top-ups can now mix chains based on real-time conditions: fund via Avalanche USDC when speed matters, via Tron USDT when fees matter, via Ethereum USDC when working with DeFi protocols. All credit the same USD balance, all available to the same cards.
The unified balance simplifies everything downstream: budget tracking, dispute handling, reconciliation against accounting systems, per-workstream spend breakdowns. Operators see one number, not multiple chain-specific balances that need to be summed.
Stablecoin funding conversions continue to use the PRO/FREE tier fees, with USDC now at 0.5% on PRO after the recent reduction. The host chain does not affect the conversion rate - just speed and fees.
