3-D Secure threshold now configurable per card

BitPay adds per-card 3-D Secure threshold configuration. Set each card independently based on its expected charge pattern - ads, subscriptions, or travel.

BitPay now supports per-card 3-D Secure threshold configuration. Each card in your program can have its own threshold based on the expected charge pattern - a Google Ads card might have $5000 (because legitimate charges can be large), a Notion subscription card might have $100 (because all charges are predictable), and a travel booking card might have $2000 (because routine charges are mid-range).

The default threshold is $250 USD. Charges below the threshold go through without 3-D Secure challenge. Charges above the threshold trigger a one-time-code verification via SMS, email, or authenticator app. The cardholder experience is identical across all surfaces - web, Telegram, API - because the configuration is set on the card, not the surface.

Lower thresholds catch fraud faster. A $50 threshold means every charge over $50 requires 3-D Secure verification - high friction but strong fraud protection. Higher thresholds ($2000+) reduce friction for legitimate high-value charges but let fraud through if the card is stolen. The right threshold depends on the workstream.

Operators can adjust thresholds in real time from the web cabinet or API. Threshold changes take effect immediately on the next charge - no waiting period, no card reissue. The cabinet also surfaces a 'fraud signal' indicator for any charge that triggered 3-D Secure, making it easy to spot patterns.
